Two real performances from Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie anchor Mary Queen of Scots, a dressing up drama about two ladies — Mary Stuart and Elizabeth Tudor, a.okay.a. Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I of England — as they fight to rule their rightful domains while being provoked and manipulated by vitality-hungry but inescapable males spherical them.
Directed by Josie Rourke from a screenplay by Dwelling of Playing cards scribe Beau Willimon, the movie mainly specializes in the ways in which Mary and Elizabeth descend prey to and then upward push above the collective passions of the disloyal males who are their subjects.
